A WHOLE NEW WAY TO READ

We don't think it's ostentatious to refer to this project as an innovation in reading, looking forward to a future when paper books are an expensive luxury, publishers continue to self-destruct, and more people walk around with various reading devices on their persons.
Yes, MAYAN CALENDAR GIRLS is blog based, but in many ways that's not that different from newspaper or movie palace serials of the past. It's non-sequential, for one thing. There is no chronology in the order in which episodes are place on the blogsite: instead there are different ways of establishing sequence, such as "clouds", keyword searches, and special indices submitted by readers to provide various "maps" of the episodes. This might seem a bit precious to older readers, but the new generation saw exactly that sort of ordering on MTV comix serials like "The Maxx" and "Aeon Flux". And are quite comfortable with modern films such as "Crash", "Babel", "Amores Perros" that weave stories together in different ways than piling up time. The episodes themselves are 1000-1500 words long, "flash-fiction-sized" litle morsels that melt on your tongue. "MCG" is a bit, science fiction, a bit fantasy, a bit newish age, a bit satire, a little bit rock and roll. The intended audience (other than geeks and disaproving librarians) are people who like "Hitchhiker's Guide", Terry Prachett, Robert "Illuminatus" Wilson, "The Onion", Jon Stewart, William Gibson, Jimmy Buffett, Brewster Rockit, Hiaasen/Dorsey/Barry, and the good old sexy romps like "Barbarella" and "Candy". Each winter solstice a book collecting the previous year's episodes will be published. Those books will also come in some ground-breaking formats, take our word for it. The last book will appear on 20/12/2012, just in time for Christmas. Ironically. All you have to do is go to the blog and start reading and searching thorugh the episodes. Subscribe to the RSS feed to get new adventures each week. Enjoy. After all how much time have we got left?
